A brief history of MN activities
On 27 February 2000 elections of the Majlisi Namoyandagon were held, and 27 March 2000 the people’s deputies took office.
The establishment of the Majlisi namoyandagon as the representative and legislative branch ranks among the greatest achievements of state independence, but it is not altogether new in the history of the republic; it does however deserve significant attention because of its intended purpose, and by its role of further strengthening state stability. The formation of the Majlisi Milli and the Majlisi namoyandagon, the two chambers that constitutes the Majlisi Oli or Parliament — bicameral legislature, was a result of the establishment of peace and national accord of all citizens of Tajikistan. From the first day of its activities the Majlisi namoyandagon has contributed greatly to strengthening peace, unity and national accord, and has assisted in the democratization of society. The establishment of the Majlisi Oli was made possible as the result of the amendments and changes to the Constitution that was ratified by the population through national referenda.
On behalf of Tajik society, the formation of the legislative branch was welcomed because it assists in the practical realization of a democratic, legal, secular and united Tajikistan. Mutual respect and cooperation govern relations between all state bodies. Such cooperative relations on behalf of Parliament were first initiated with the President, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon.
